The first Tallinn Sauna Camp was held in the last weekend of February 2010. The combination of beautiful Tallinn, cheap alcohol and hot sauna was in instant success.
In the next years the last weekend of February (around the Estonian independence day on the 24th) has become a regular event on the Couchsurfing calendar with a steady number of participant of around 100 from neighboring Finland, Russia and Latvia, sauna enthusiast from Germany, The Netherlands and Italy and other travelers from Europe and far beyond.
The alcohol prices have risen, but Tallinn stays and attractive place to visit. The event has around 60% regular visitors and 40% newcomers. Since the guerilla camp during the corona pandemic in 2022 where some regular visitors decided to organize an event when borders opened again, the event is much more organized by and for the participants. Apart from the Welcome party on Friday, the Sauna party on Saturday and the Spa event on Sunday, most of the sub-events are organized spontaneously.
